I started taking pottery lessons
in the mid 90's while working as a counsellor in Southwestern Ontario. For years I had tried other creative avenues
but I fell in love with clay and what I could do with it. The idea of working with the basic elements
in nature - earth, fire, air and water - to make beautiful and
useful objects fascinated me. My work is
a combination of functional table ware and sculptural, alternatively-fired
pieces.
After completing all of the
ceramic classes offered at Lambton College in Sarnia, I went on to take many
workshops with several renowned Canadian and American ceramic artists.
Since moving back to Ottawa I have
continued my work at Gladstone Clayworks Pottery Co-op where I share ideas with
other members and teach students the joy of clay as others taught, and continue
to teach me.
Working with clay has sustained me
during many difficult times over the years.
I know that when nothing else is going right, I can still make pretty
things, and when others like some of those things, it makes my efforts even
more satisfying.
